Doctors Without Borders

Doctors Without Borders in a non-governmental, international humanitarian aid organization. The primary focus of the organization is to provide medical care to individuals whose health or health care system in their country has been affected and/or impacted by conditions beyond their control, such as political agendas, military actions, epidemics, natural disasters and/or insufficient health care systems in their own country. The organization maintains offices throughout the world, including such counties as the United States, Australia, Italy, Spain, and the United Kingdom. What I find most interesting is that Doctors Without Borders employs and organizes teams of public health/health career professionals from all over the world and then sends them to many different nations to deliver health care directly to the people who are in dire need it. I believe working on a team composed of public health/health care professionals from a variety of countries would not only be professionally rewarding but also personally rewarding as well. It would be exciting to live and work in another country. It also fits my personal value of helping individuals who desperately need access to health care. The opening monthly salary for any of the field work occupations that are offered by Doctors Without Borders is $1404. Along with this salary, the organization will cover the employee’s round-trip transportation, their room and board in the project country; provide comprehensive medical and life insurance, as well as a payment of interest on student loans after the employee’s first field assignment. While the monthly salary seems low the other benefits appear to be excellent. At the same time the idea of working with Doctors Without Borders seems exciting, rewarding and of a humanitarian nature, there is the downside. Working in these settings also places the employee in a potentially dangerous and unsafe environment.

  1. Doctors Without Borders sound like a great and rewarding place of employment. I think it is amazing how other countries work together to bring help to those who are in desperate need of it. I think it is also interesting how there is a mix of both health professionals and public health professionals working together. Just like in the organization that I picked the benefits outweigh the salary (just as many other nonprofit organizations). These positions might not make thousands of dollars, but I do think that the rewarding feeling of helping people who are unable to help themselves should strongly outweigh the money factors.

  2. I think that Doctors without borders is another great organization to work for, especially for those who are dedicated to service and helping others. I really appreciate their mission and objective as they are a non-profit organization determined to make a difference in serving communities who are in desperate needs for health specialist. Any organizations involved in this field of work, especially the type of work that they do, which comes with a lot of drawbacks, deserve a lot of recognition. I have personally seen them operate in foreign countries, and despite all the risks and dangers that are often present in their place of work, they still get the work done.

  3. Doctors Without Borders sounds like a very great organization to work for. It offers many opportunities to grow as a person, a professional, and in turn help people that need it the most. I think what we all have in common is that we want to help the community around us, whether it be locally or internationally. I heard about this organization through one of my other classes and it was something that interests me. It’s a great opportunity to learn about the world around us and immerse ourselves in a different culture. I think people that work for organizations such as Doctors Without Borders put themselves in a challenging position and the work they do is rewarding.

  4. Doctors without Borders sounds like a very fulfilling organization to be involved in. For someone who is dedicated to helping those in need no matter the situation, this would be a perfect fit. Not only would you be working directly with the communities, but you would also get to travel expense free to various places wherever aid is needed. This is similar to the employers that I researched because I’m very interested in international opportunities. Working alongside other professionals from around the globe would also be a chance to see different perspectives. This job doesn’t offer that much in the way of monetary value but you gain so much in all other aspects. I think benefits are very important to consider so this is something that I would definitely do.

  5. I am so glad you wrote about Doctors Without Borders. I have always been interested in this organization but never looked into it because I assumed it primarily employed clinical staff. I am excited at the idea that they also hire public health professionals. Like you, I want to help people who desperately need healthcare have access to it. Personally, I think it would be an amazing experience to work not only for the organization and with its other employees but also the directly with the people that need healthcare services the most. I was pleasantly surprised by your blog because I never realized all the great benefits that Doctors Without Borders provides. This is definitely an employer I will consider applying for after graduation!
